CarMax usually has plenty of Mercedes S550’s that meet my unicorn standards ($35,000 or less, 60,000 miles or less) so I don’t cover them much. But this low budget model, and two low priced, low mileage S550’s caught my eye.  I love the ride of the S600 I just bought, but not everyone wants a gas guzzling V-12. These S550’s – especially the 2012 – will get you the luxury ride and still have plenty of oomph. The 2009 S550 above is a bit of a bargain, although it did have a rear impact accident six years ago. Find the 2009 model here in Tampa.Â
The 2009 S550 and this 2010 “only” have 382 hp, and that should be enough to cruise the interstates. The 2010 is a bit pricey at $32,998, but it has a stupid low 12,000 miles – meaning the MaxCare warranty cap is probably 150,000 miles for five years. Means you could put over 25,000 miles a year on this car without running out of warranty or having to foot the bill for a major repair. Willy Loman, this car’s for you. Love the wheels on the 2010 – would rather have those on my S600 than the crappy ones I got. Find the 2010 here in Boston.
This 2012 S550 just popped up this morning and seems to be the best all around deal. The dealer hasn’t even loaded all the photos yet and I suspect it will sell by the weekend (unlike the 2009 – it’s been in my saved car profile for weeks!). The 2012 4.7 liter twin turbo has 47 more horsepower and 125 more ft-lbs of torque than the 5.5 liter 2009/10 models. It’s $5,000 less than the 2010, and still has a super low 38,000 miles.  Find this single owner beauty here in Duarte, California. It says it’s not transferable, but it is if you have a good CarMax rep. I do.
And just for fun, I got a kick out of this limited edition S550 Igloo model (Cyclone Bomb?) that popped up this week – and quickly disappeared. Wondering if it sold or is off the market until shoveled out?  Enjoy.
