God bless America. Thought I’d take a moment to pick out a handful of unicorns that fit this holiday. Start with that American icon, the Jeep Wrangler Freedom edition. Six cylinder, six speed manual transmission, real four wheel drive, cruise control, found here in Albuquerque. How about a modern “lightweight” Jeep, the 75th Anniversary Renegade; one of the few with a manual six speed to manage the 1.4l turbocharged four? Not much oomph but more than the 1941 original by far. And in OD green no less! It’s for sale in Pompano Beach, Florida. I’m ignoring it’s two wheel drive. Here’s to liberty; a four wheel drive six cylinder Jeep Liberty small ute, albeit also with an automatic. I do not think those fender mounted lamps in the front will survive in the Red Ball Express. Still green. Still well appointed. Still cheap here in Westborough, MA. Can’t overlook the Jeep Patriot. Unlike the Jeeps above, our troops made do with sparse, bare bones utility Jeeps. This is the best I can do. One of the few manual transmission Patriots on Carmax lots, a baby four cylinder, and ROLL UP WINDOWS! It’s here in Louisville, KY. And last but not least, the modern day icon (ok….this century), the Hummer. Yes it’s just an H3, but with four wheel drive, a tow hitch, a manly looks, a five cylinder engine to squeak out 14/18 mpg, and its cheap. And appropriately it’s here at Warner Robbins. Enjoy your Memorial Day and God bless all who sacrificed, and their families.
