Quick Hit – Jaguar Triplets?

The Jaguar XKR above is not one of the triplets. It’s the last Jaguar XK I wrote about in February 2022 here. One of several over the years I’ve driven and thought about buying. And every single time I cover an XK I mention how much I love the svelte look of the hardtop and not really a big fan of the drop top – disrupts the flow from the B-pillar back to the deck. But I’ve also tried to learn over the years to not say a car isn’t pretty – it’s just not for me. I would offer that with the top down the body has a totally different vibe and is quite nice. If you’ve always wanted one of the X150 Jaguar XK convertibles imported from 1996 to 2015 here’s three nearly identical triplet unicorns for you.

2015 Jaguar XK
2014 Jaguar XK
2012 Jaguar XK

The 2015 at the top is my favorite. First, Jaguar sold only 492 of the final year 2015 models (the web says three 2016 models were sold!). Second, it’s in unicorn pricing territory at $39,998 (update – it just dropped to $37,998!). Third, it’s low mileage at 32,000. Last, it’s the lovely tan interior below I equate with luxury. My wife equates it to visible coffee stains when my commute goes bad. We’re both right.

The 2014 model has the Portfolio Package (above), that includes a “Truffle” colored interior and “Poltrona Frau” leather headliner. For those of you unfamiliar with Poltrona Frau, they’re a high end Italian firm that since 1912 has provided (among other things) leather interiors for aircraft, cars, and yachts. Yes, I looked it up. The 2014 XK is the most expensive at $43,998 and has the lowest miles at only 18,000. Only 2,000+ miles a year? Are the interior and low mileage enough to ay $6,000 more?

The interior above is from the 2012 XK. Looks exactly like the 2015. All of these XK’s have heated and air conditioned seats, heated steering wheels, and Bowers & Wilkins audio. They all have rear view cameras although CarMax left that off of the 2012 description of features (it’s there).

The Jaguar XK’s are powered by an aluminum V-8, 5.0 liters making 380 hp. Not rockets, maybe five second 0-60 mph – just fast enough with the top down to keep it fun. The 2015 Jaguar XK convertible sold for maybe $90,000 and is $37,998 here in Boynton Beach, Florida. I included the ad twice below because in the two hours since I started writing this piece, the price dropped $2,000! My procrastination pays off. The 2014 XK is here in Lynwood, Washington. The 2012 Jaguar XK convertible sold for maybe $80,000 and is only $34,998 now. It’s in the process of being shipped to Bradenton, Florida so the price is hidden. It’s here if you want to track it. Of course, I wouldn’t own them without MaxCare.

  1. I just bought a 2013 XKR with 35,000 miles for $34,998 that popped up at my local CarMax (with MaxCare of course.) I had a convertible but always coveted the coupe. This one is red with the Black Pack and is one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen.
I was very surprised that the CarMax price was on the low side of the KBB and NADA range.
    Really like your blog.

    1. Thanks! I missed the red XKR. Sounds like a damned hood deal. Sadly the green one I last passed on I turned down as a fluke. Felt like no leg room but afterwards found the key lockbox had been jammed behind the drivers seat costing me precious inches. There were other problems and by then I was steamed.
