Quick Hit – They’re Back! Teslas at CarMax.

As called by my bud at CarMax Teslas are back on the CarMax used car unicorn lot. Gave a heads up in this post in February and the first one showed up this week. As background, I posted about Teslas and CarMax in 2018 here but they vanished for a few years. In 2018 they were offered in California only and should be available nationwide soon. Thanks to reader Cannon for alerting me to this one while I’m driving cross country! (Update below.)

The Tesla dash was once space age, but with everyone bolting iPads to the dash not so much anymore.
Makes me want to eat Oreos. Or Pandas.

I wanted to make some funny ha-ha joke about what’s under the hood of a Tesla, but it looks a lot like my 911.

I honestly don’t know what to write about Teslas. It’s electric? I’m the guy who writes way too much about V-8’s and owns a V-12. Gas powered cars will sunset about the same time I do. Clearly they are the future. I’m hoping to get details on MaxCare options for this Tesla soon. For now, find this one owner, accident free car here in Palmdale, California.

To drive 1,000 miles solo in a day means getting up stupid early in the cold.
Sunrise chasing me leaving Crawfordsville, Indiana.
Sunset leading me as I approach the Nebraska-Wyoming border.

Day two of my cross country drive to visit my son included my bucket list goal of driving 1,000 miles solo in a day. Left Crawfordsville, Indiana before sunrise thinking I’d be driving well into the dark to reach Cheyenne, Wyoming. It went far better. Made two stops for gas (400+ mile range getting 19 mpg in the V-12 Mercedes) and two stops to stretch/forage for food. The dashboard only captures time driven – the elapsed time was another 90 minutes. Ran into many State Police cruisers in the median in the early stages of Iowa not tagged on Waze (who do I complain to?) but from western Iowa to Cheyenne very, very few pings from Waze or the radar detector. The S600 continues to be quiet, comfortable, and fast for coast to coast driving. The car will have more than 80,000 miles on it after this trip and despite having 45,000 miles and three years of MaxCare left, wondering if I should sell it soon or drive it until the very end. It’s really a joy.
